From ancient times, Maella has been renowned as a pre-eminently agricultural village. Olive growing and oil production were of prime importance. The hardworking, business-minded local people were quick to see the importance of producers in the farming sector joining forces and in 1947 (to be exact, on 28-12-47), the "San Lorenzo" Farmers Cooperative, named in honour of one of the Aragonese local saints, Patron Saint of the village.

When we began bottling oil for retail sale, we had to come up with our own name. Thus, in 1965, "MAGALIA" was born, the label which these days gives its name to our quality products. During the final quarter of the 20th century, the San Lorenzo Cooperative underwent major improvements, among which we can highlight the building of:

  • A Central Fruit Warehouse, adapted to current quality management systems.
  • An olive press equipped with the most advanced machinery.
  • A winery for making our own wines.
  • A plant for the reception, drying and storage of almonds.
